Eric Gonder is a second-generation turkey producer, senior veterinarian with Butterball LLC and Goldsboro Milling Company for over 30 years. Current operations include 3 breeder divisions, 3 hatcheries, 4 slaughter plants, and over 600 contract farms in 5 states and a NPIP approved laboratory. Responsible for bird health and welfare, disaster response. Provide back-up for scheduling, purchasing of pharmaceuticals, disinfectants, insecticides, vaccines.
Training – DVM, 1974 Iowa State University, MS in avian microbiology, 1976, University of Minnesota, and PhD in pathology/poultry science, 1991, North Carolina State University. ACPV diplomate. Licensed/accredited in North Carolina and Arkansas. PAACO auditor. PHTQA trainer.
Active in NPIP (current Chair and Member-At-Large), NTF (current Chair, Turkey Health & Welfare Subcommittee), AAAP, AVTP, USAHA. Member of PSA, AAFHV, AVMA (current Chair, Animal Agriculture Liaison Committee), NC Veterinary Reserve Corps. Participate in disaster/disease response exercises. Served on 1983 USDA Avian Influenza Task Force. Adjunct professor, North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Occasional instructor, Prestage Department of Poultry Science, North Carolina State University.
Over 12 scientific publications; numerous presentations and lay publications. Able to achieve close rapport with service staff and growers.
Hobbies include draft horses, light construction, piano, reading, any individual outdoor activity.
